Language, Thought and Culture in Conversation

Join us for a four-part series where Italian and linguistics come together to spark curiosity and conversation. Each two-hour session is designed to balance theory, practice and social connection.

Every session includes:

• Four 15 minute blocks of bilingual (Italian & English) lecture on a key linguistic topic, each followed by 10 minutes of Italian language exercises based on the talk.
• A twenty minute aperitivo in the middle of each session.

Over the course of the four sessions, we’ll explore:

1. How language shapes the way we think (Sunday 26/10)
2. First and second language acquisition 1/2 (Sunday 9/11)
3. First and second language acquisition 2/2 (Sunday 23/11)
4. What is linguistics, really? Exploring the field that helps us understand all languages, including Italian (Sunday 7/12)

All sessions will be held at My Language School in Coburg North and online by Simone and Dr Beatrice Venturin, Lecturer in Applied Linguistics at Melbourne University.
